FindFirst is only available for DAO what is the equivalent in ADO ?

Find will work but the "filter" method is more flexible. If the "find" is used a 2nd time on the recordset it will cause a requery which can be overhead on a large recordset, the filter will not.

all depends what you need to do with the recordset.

could you tell us what you want to achieve ?

I am trying to move from one record to the next on one tab by clicking a button on another.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean.
For navigating through records on a bound form you can use Docmd.gotorecord (acNext)

The recs are listed on one form with other details on teh second (in tabs) the button needs to be on the details form which is the problem as it only displays the details of the record selected in the first tab.
