Hi! everyone.
I got a some problem at importvg.
My customer did execute exportvg in one system.
and he want to use importvg another system.
but he didn't know vgname. so when he did import another
system, system brought up default vgname.
My customer want to get original vgname in another system too.
How can i find original vgname?
I have used to low LVM commands. but couldn't find.
Would you answer for me?
sorry for bed english!
thanks & regards

Find out the major number for the volume group by using the ls command..

ls -l /dev/<vg_name>

Note the major number. Export the volume group and run synclvodm which should remove the entries for that VG from the ODM. Now re-import it specifying the correct name and major number.

importvg -V <major_number> -y <vg_name> <hdisk>

Hope it helps.

Yep. But the name is not stored in the volume group.
I hope it works...
Unix was made by and for smart people.

hi,
the vgname is not written on the vg, once you did an exportvg, the vgname is no more on the system.
You can always look into the /smit.log or /smit.script, if the vg was created by smit and if you didnt delete it since.

hope that helps

thanks you reply.
