I have searched here and on the web and found no solutions.

The results from uname -a on Linux are these:

Linux vmdb08 2.4.21-32.0.1.ELsmp #1 SMP Tue May 17 17:52:23 EDT 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

How do I find out if this box is:

1) Linux Itanium -- or --
2) Linux x86-64 (AMD64, EM64T)???

I seem to recall being able to find this info from one of the /proc structures. I dont have a linux box handy, so I cant verify at the moment.

Thanks for the tip,

cat /proc/cpuinfo seems to give more info:

processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 15
model : 4
model name : Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz
...etc...
For me still confusing because I need to download an Oracle patch and except for the 32 bit versions it only allows the above two "Platform" options.

I solved the problem -- walked over to the sysadmins and just asked. [thumbsup2]

that works?!? [3eyes] I thought we were required to give some obscure answer that would discourage future interactions. [smile]

Well, you know how it is...Don't know at your place, but here to get something out of the Unix SA's is like trying to pull the wisdom tooth out of a mule with your bare hands. [censored]

I'm looking for the same information from "cat /proc/cpuinfo" on an HP-UX box?

its been eons since I have done any HPUX stuff... I think one of these will give you what you want:

procinfo
prtconf

After doing some quick research, I dont think the above will work on HPUX (I did say its been a while).

I know you can get the cpu info via sam-->performance-->system properties... but that can be a bit cumbersome for just cpu info.

Read this thread over on the ITRC forums. There are some scripts to get that info without having to fire up sam.
