Is there any way to find out which COMM ports are being assigned to USB devices? I'm trying to figure out which port my USB barcode scanner is using.

So far the Device Manager hasn't been useful.

As I understand it, USB doesn't use the Comm ports. Its a different data bus altogether.

Sounds like the chip set is the problem. Some of these devices use the 'cypress' chip set and drivers. These are basically a generic type of driver, and they are more dynamic in nature. As such, they tend to leave you hanging when it comes to port assignments. If they are based on the 'prolific chip set and driver', then there should be a definite com port assigned, and it should be visible thru the device manager.

msinfo32 wasn't very helpful either. It didn't have much info about USB port assignment at all.

Have you been through device manager and looked at the USB hub and port assignments there. It will tell you which hub, port and how much power is being used.
