What is the relationship between each Find Me Follow Me seat in BCM50 Release 5 with Virtual Terminal seats and the number of lines rung simultaneously, internal, or external?

Nortel said one virtual terminal was required regardless of the number of phones FMFM rings, but their language was unclear. It could have meant 1 Virtual can ring several phones on outgoing trunks, or that 1 virtual was needed per simultaneous call.

Avaya said one virtual terminal was required for each outgoing call plus one for the incoming to the BCM office phone.

Then Avaya says they're free. Well what does that mean?

I have a couple of SIP trunks and my BCM 50 system is set to be answered on no answer by Call Pilot with one option to call my cell phone which uses the FMFM feature by having the outgoing call made on one analogue phone.

You get one virtual terminal for each FMFM seat. In looking at the button assignments for the virtual terminals I see they each have 3 intercoms assigned, indicating each virtual terminal can handle 3 simultaneous calls. If you have 5 destinations programmed for FMFM then it would take a minimum of 2 virtual terminals to initiate the 5 outgoing calls. You also would need enough outgoing lines to complete 6 simultaneous calls if you have 5 destinations. This is why a PRI is recommended to use FMFM. Each of my 2 SIP trunks can handle 4 simultaneous calls, so my system has enough resources to make full use of FMFM. I have FMFM activated on my BCM50 R6 and the feature works great with my SIP trunks, although I only have one destination programmed to my cell phone. You can see the progress of FMFM calls with BCM Monitor.

From the other post here is my reply

In my testing it boils down to 1 Virtual Terminal (Application DN) per phone number called.
Example
1 FMFM license
5 Max Sessions
5 Application DN's
User has all 5 external destination slots programmed.

All 5 Application DN's will be in use when users DN is called.

The testing was done using 4 SIP accounts
In Monitor it showed it was using lines 008 to 012

Thanks -- another person confirmed your results. The virtual terminal licenses are implicit and in the FMFM seat.

I think that real PRI's are an endangered species. Everything is going or already gone to SIP trunks that are then converted to analog or PRI at the local site. I remember AT&T saying they had a goal to be totally free of regular copper analog lines by 2020. My Flowroute SIP trunks have worked almost flawlessly with my BCM50 since I made the switch about 2 years ago.

I totally agree with Exmogger, As long as you have a decent internet link, then SIP trunks are the future.

That may be AT&T's opinion -- they are making it the future by force. Customers can choose to make AT&T the past.

SIP wasn't the only protocol on the table -- it's the COBOL of voip protocols -- overly verbose, and not well suited for Nortel phones which have always been stimulus based (IP or not). It is a slap in the face to BNR. They were not stupid people.

I've seen Bell Canada's SIP trunking guidelines -- they don't even follow industry best practices.
