Any body got a routine or code to do a Find in a memo field. The find button, dialog box etc in foundation class's is a piece of crap. Need to find whole words i.e. If looking for "it" it should not find "unit etc. AT..'s do not work.
Used to know how to do this many many moons ago...
Thanks

Hello Mike;

Trying to write a routine without using the "find dialog" box or the foundation class. Match whole words will work, The find dialog foundation class does not have this option for me to look at the code.
Thanks

Imaginecorp,

I'm not sure why you want to avoid the built-in dialogue. If your user is sitting in the memo editor, they only have to hit Ctrl+F to bring it up.

Then again, why would your user be in the memo editor? Maybe I've completely misunderstood.

Mike

As usual, I have not explained:

I created a Comments/notes class which has its own table and can be dropped onto any form. It is comprised of a listbox which displays the dates the comments were created and an edit box that displays the comments.

I wanted to put Search/Find functionality in it. The find dialog box (CTRL-F) will not traverse records and I did not know if it can be used in runtime.

Last night I finished a "rough" version of a "find" utility and will put the finishing touches today. It is fantastic, if I may say so myself {g}, and was extremely simple to implement. Got the idea from code reference dialog box code...

Imaginecorp,

Well, I'm delighted you've found a solution, but I wish you had explained at the outset what you wanted to do. You might have got a better answer, and it would have saved my time.

Mike
