Find Date Stamp of a file

Hi,
I am writing a script that needs to read the
date (YYYYMMDD)a particular file was created and store it
in a variable that I can use later in my script.

Could pls. tell me how to go about this?

To get the date in that format use the following command:

date +%Y%m%d
