I have a general question in regards to Crystal Reports XI. I would like to do a "Find and Replace" feature where I want to find all instances of one field (i.e. tablename.create_date) and replace it with another field (i.e. tablename.entry_date).

More specifically I want to replace the one field with a field from another database. I already have the new database in the report.

Any ideas?

Are you wanting to update the record? You can do that in SQL etc., given access rights. But not in Crystal.

If you mean 'replace', that depends on string values. You could get the same effect with a formula field that was conditional.

I believe you have to do this manually, instance by instance. If you are having trouble finding all references, export the report to report definition.

Also be sure to check record sorting, and section and field formatting formula areas.

Just as an aside to this query...

Could the OP use set datasource to map this field to a n other field?

I know this would be a very poor way to proceed as it would confuse matters for anyone else looking at the config later on, but would it actually function?

Set Datasource Location does what you want, but only if you're pointing to a different file.

I guess you could try changing the data source to a dummy file, then changing it back to your original file and changing the fields to the ones you wanted. If you do this, be sure you usse a copy of the report - not the only original - because this is just a crazy suggestion. It might work, it might make the report a jumbled mess.
