FIN_WAIT_2 on netstat 1

please can you help

when I do a netstat, there are some connections that have a FIN_WAIT_2
status. What are the ways to remove these connections aside from rebooting
the unix server?

i there a setting to clean up the FIN_WAIT_2 status quicker

i have a compaq intel box running SCO UnixWare 7.1.0
