Filters still only use the 8.3 structure

I just got off the phone with Arcserve.

It seems that all the problems I've been having with filters is their fault.

Apparently filters only support the 8.3 filename structure. And there's NO documentation that explains that.

So that if you're trying to exclude a directory that has a name like;

vol1:\long dir name\dir2\dir3\dir4

If you want to exclude the first level and all sub directories after that then do this;

vol1:\long*

If you want to exclude \dir2 or \dir3 etc... I don't think you can, because you would have to get past the \long dir name, and since it doesn't support the long name, you wouldn't be able to.

Arcserve says "wildcard is only allowed in last segment".

Hope this helps some of you!

You can change the long filename to the 8.3 name by checking what the long filename is in DOS. If you do a DIR /X you get the 8.3 name, then you can put it into your filter.

For example: vol1:\long dir name\dir2\dir3\dir4
would be: vol1:\longdi~1\dir2\dir3\dir4

This is how I do it and it works
