filtering reports and sendto

I have a form that is emailing a report using either the sendto or outputto action.
The problem is that I cant seem to filter the thing.
if i set the properties inthe onopen like:
me.filter="holdnum=" & passholdnum
me.filteron

access tells me it cant perform this action
BTW passholdnum is a global

if i set the FILTER prop. in the reports prop box
it asks be for the var passholdnum
with the parameter box.

if i bais the report on a query with passholdnum it again asks for passhuldnum in the parameter box

can i change the title to the parameterbox to something more meaningful?

better how do i pass the !@##$% passholdnum var.
