I have been given a database and they are asking to have the capability of filtering data for all items in the Retired box that are checked. How can I make this happen?

You haven't given us much to work with. You are in the FORMS forum, so are you wanting to do this on a form? If it is in datasheet format you can just right-click and pick FILTER BY SELECTION. Does that not work for you? Or do you want the user to hit a button and have it do it for them? Please provide more details...
