We are running NetWare 5.1. We want to filter what types of files our users can place into specific directories on the volumes of our servers. For instance, we want to block EXE, MP3, and WAV files from being placed into specific directories on our volumes. Is there a native Novell utility to use for this function? If not, are there any 3rd-party utilities that can do it?

Thanks,

No, if you want to block stuff like that, your best bet is to filter it out at the router and on your email server. Novell is a File server and there is no way you can block vertain types from being writte, at least none that I am aware of. From my experience with NT and Linux/Unix I don't recall a filter on that either.

You may want to look at LDAP to see if there may be something there that may work but I wouldn't hold my breath.
