While searching for a good search option in access i came across the button "Filter by Form".

Now, searching for a record using this method has found to be very simple as it uses the current form that you use to enter the data in, so its familiar to the users of the database.

I would like to use this filter option as the way for the users to find record information but a few flaws have held me back from doing so and i was wondering if they could be corrected.

Firstly, when im doing an initial search for criteria in a record and i have found that information and want to do another search, all the criteria is not cleared when i got to perform another search. This can be confusing as my form is organised using tab arrangements and forgetting about existing criteria on another tab can return incorrect results when i wish to perform another search at a later date.

Secondly, i wish to have a command button on my actual form as opposed to the tool bar that allows me to use the filter by form function, but i cannot find how to do so. All the command button functions in the wizard dont include this function.

Well thats my current predicament.

If you can help me or would like me to re-iterate my problem then post a reply.

Thanks

I am looking for the same thing. would it be possible to post the code behind the buttons for the above listed actions? thanks in advance.

I'm not opening it from Form it is query

I'm trying to make relationship between two (and more) tables for query.

I need to read from one table the data but not write to it.
The ID row will be linked to the other table (this table will be update with the number of the ID).

Until now I have success to make relationship between them but both of the table are updated.

Hello everybody. Is it possible to have a form open in the filter by form view automatically? If so can anybody suggest some code to do this?

I am also still looking for the code to use with a command button on the form to "Apply Filter" and "Clear Grid." Can anybody help me with this? I have searched the MSDN and other internet sites with no luck. My goal is to keep the form as simple as possible. Thanks.

JASON

PS. I would just send you an email kapeller, but I dont have an available email address at the moment (I'm at a remote job site).

Since 10 people a day ask about custom Search and Filter forms I am going to add the following URL to the FAQ...

:)

Anyway...follow this URL and I have added a site where you can download a sample I posted.

Enjoy

thanks jfgambit. I checked out your db at the Access World Forums. I want to keep my existing filter by form method, but just add a command button on the form that does what the "Apply Filter" and "Clear Grid" buttons on the tool bar do (for simplicity to users). is this possible?

ttt...

my "apply filter" button doesnt work in the Filter By Form view (it is greyed out) but works fine is the regular form view. how can I get this and the "Clear Grid" button to wrk with filter by form?

ok, I really need some help here guys. I figured out the code to place behind my buttons for "clear grid" and "apply filter" (RunCommand nameofcommand) but heres the problem. all the buttons on my form are greyed out when the filter by form mode is on and I want them to be available. "clear grid" and "apply filter" are still available and work when selected on the toolbar, so I know you can use them when in filter by form mode. but I need to get buttons for these commands on the form so its simple for users to use. how do I keep the buttons available (not greyed out) for users when the filter by form view is on? ANY help is greatly appreciated. thanks.
