hi

I had a look at the sample cubes built from cognos, i was interested in one perticularly, the model file is

D:\Program Files\Cognos\cer3\samples\PowerPlay\Cubes and Reports\Great Outdoors (Admin).mdl

the cubes are filtered regionwise. I can see that there is a region level sub-dimension created, but i dont think thats how its done.

In the cube properties, Dimentions, the specific categories are selected and surely thats the filtering condition.

I am trying to replicate the same, I am getting Omit Dimension and All Categories option, If i select View there is no category list... How to get this?

my query in simple: In Cube Proerties => Dimensions => right click => View... => ???????? how to get the category list here

thanks and regards

Sudhi,
If I understand your post, you've not noticed that what you think is a filtering condition is merely a dimension view. Open the Dimension Viewer and expand out the dimensions and you'll see the Views that are referred to in the cube properties under dimensions.

nope. sorry, thats not wht i was asking.

I am asking how to create separate cubes based on the data. In the samples (given by cognos) separate cubes created based on the region code.

I loooked in those cube properties and found that the Dimension tab in the Properties window, has set to filter only those categories.

But I dont know how to get the category list there. I am seeing only "Ommit", "All Categories" and "View..." options when i right click on the dimension name. Under view I should be able to see the categories of that dimension.

if u hav series 7 installed, pelase check that model

Sudhi,
I've checked the model GreatOutDoors (Admin).mdl.
The cubes created are ones that the model-builder has added manually; not a cube-group based on region.
The cubes created all have the same total revenue; it's not as though the Americas cube just has the Americas revenue. What you see as a filter is just the name of the view that has been set up; a summary on product or location or channel.
I can right-click on the dimension list in the dimensions tab of the cube properties and see the views that have been configured in the dimension map of the model.
Apologies if I've missed your point; I've read both your posts again.

hi

"I can right-click on the dimension list in the dimensions tab of the cube properties and see the views that have been configured in the dimension map of the model."

Absolutelly correct. i am asking how those views are coming. I created a model, inserted an additional cube, went to cube properties, dimension tab, right click on the dimension name, got three options, selected "Views...", it opened a small window, but the window constains nothing!!!

If i do the samething on the sample cube, i get a list of categories in the small window (title "Select a View"). Where those views are configured?

Sorry, i am not able to explain wht i want. No views listing for me to select, where to configur those views against the dimension?

sudhi

Sudhi,
what you are seeing are the views that one can set up in the dimension map. Click on the 9th icon along, showing a one to 3 relationship (if you hover over it, it says "Show
Diagram") and the Dimension viewer opens - a window headed "categories" with a list on the lhs of the dimensions and a pictogram of the levels on the right. If the cube(s) has/have not been built, this pictogram is empty. Right click on a dimension title and you should get a menu with the choices "properties", "delete dimension" and "add a view". Choose the last and you get an opportunity to name your view before the display reverts to that you had before. There should be a level under the dimension (expand the plus in the box) which is your view. You can cloak, summarize and suppress levels.
The view is then set in the dimensions tab of the cubes, as you've already found.
All this should be in one of the pdfs under Dimension Views, where you'll probably find a better explanation!

What appears to be a drawback is the inability to exclude a level in one dimension for one cube only; exclusion occurs for all data related to that level.

PS the other tab in the Dimension map allows you to set views based on user classes and is for many users, more useful.
