Hey there everyone!! I need some help from your expertise (years of experience mainly) about some filmy dust on our phone displays that does not appear to be present on our laptops OR desktop monitors. We asked housekeeping if they had cleaned our phones and they claim no. We asked facilities if they did anything with air/humidity and they claim no. We wipe off the displays and the mysterious film comes back over a weekend or a few days. When you wipe it appears to be dust on the rag but it looks splotchy/residue like on the phone displays (certainly not dust).
Is the LCD screen on a phone somehow different to an LCD screen on a laptop or desktop flat screen?

The only thing I can think of is external factors as it is not present on the inside of the phone. You can certainly clean it but it is frustrating it keeps coming back :(

Any suggestion is appreciated!! I have a Siemens Advance and a Nortel 1140 at my desk that both have film - we are also located in Omaha, Nebraska so that is why I was thinking a humidity issue due to winter!! The only problem is that is doesn't appear to be condensation either. Unless it is dried condesation that collected dust?

You might want to try denatured alcohol and some cotton wool. It could be you have a greasy residue on the display that attracts the dust. The alcohol should get rid of it.

One of two things. Either they just turned the humidifier on and it had an oil residue in the pan, or they turned your air handlers down and didn't change filters. You may have old air handlers that don't compensate for changes easily. We just turned on humidifiers in our office, after seeing Elvis while getting zapped turning on light switches. Big time static!

Thanks guys!! Yep I forgot to include that we tried the alcohol and it still comes back. I agree that it could be some type of oil residue in the pan. I am pretty sure they changed the filters though because I always see our Maint guys carrying them around.
Funny getting zapped by static!!

Maybe it will 'fix' itself in the spring - too bad we will have snow on the ground until June :D

try moving to a milder climate. if your maint guys are like mine, they do walk around so you think they are doing something.. that fine haze can be r-22, one of the finest oils going. denatured alcohol and some cotton removes it but the static on the display draws it like a magnet.

you could not see Elvis, he works at McDonalds on main here in town. (according to the internet)

;D Afraid I am friggin stuck here in Omahole for at least 25+ years :( :( I am getting REALLY tired of the snow - 31 years of it is finally starting to wear on me (course the first 15 years were mostly playing in it ;)

I hope it is not r-22 :( Good tip on the cotton I will try that!

Funny about Elvis!

HAH!!! We finally found out the issue! Some midnight cleaning person was spraying the phones with cleaner as our third shift witnessed it occuring and reported it directly to me :) When we started questioning about it a few weeks ago they quit doing it so now all is well! Thank you very much for your great advice and I will know more 'options' to look for next time :) I really didn't think that was the case since we FIRST approached housekeeping and it was still happening ;)

Now watch. People will start dropping like fly's because their phones are accumulating tons of germs and food residue. Then, they'll go back to spraying the sets and the vicious cycle will start again... Might as well jump on the SkiDo, head to Denver and party.
