Can someone tell me if there is a simple (or not-so-simple) way to do the following in Illustrator CS1:

I have two overlapping circles that I would like to be able to select just the overlapping area and fill it with a different color from what the non-overlapping parts of the two circles are filled with. How can I go about this? Thanks.

CS doesn't have Live Paint, with which this would be a snap.

The easiest way in CS is going to be:

Select both circles;

In the Pathfinder palette (Ctrl-Shift-F9), click on "Divide";

Now, with the Group Select tool, select the overlapping section and fill.

Thanks for your reply. Maybe I am not getting this, but when I use the group select tool and click on the overlapping area after following the previous steps that you mentioned, it doesn't do anything. What am I missing?

Nevermind, I figured it out. I needed to Ungroup the divided objects before selecting. Thanks for your help.
