Is there any reason I shouldn't put data in the filler fields in the PSQL version ? Item Master has this juicy little 76 byte character data field as the last field and I sure would like to use it

When macola adds fields to the files they use this filler & create new ddfs (such as the 103 release, then 103d). If you use the filler, you should start at the end of the file & work forward. You may also need to modify your ddfs if you need reporting, indexing, etc. It's pretty risky if you haven't gone through all the developer training, etc. Several of the long-time cobol developers have used this technique successfully, so you might want to contact one of them for more info. Peak Data, IPS, Saturn Business, SCSI, etc.

I don't want to do anything risky - I'll just code around it, thanks!

Good idea vbajock,

If you need more fields then I would suggest 2 ways to get around it.

1. Go to MS-SQL. Once there you can add other tables to the database very easily.

2. Stay in P.Sql and use Access or MSDE or SQL or something to add other tables and maintain reportability.

That's what I usually do. In this case, I wanted to add a field to the screen because all the UDF's are used up.
