My wife has a problem on her computer. It seems that she lost her files on the desktop. What she told me is that the files show up but have a wavy sign and also has "wrl" and numbers. When she clicks on this nothing is shown. Can anyone help?

something like this:

filewrl~01

Might be that they became corrupted and Windows tried to salvage them.

You may need to go in and manually change the names and extensions to match their contents.

If not, we'll need more info to even begin to diagnose the problem.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

She may have inadvertently changed the file type. Try right clicking on one of the files select open with ...
If it's a doc, you might want to try M$ Word or whatever appropriate application. As vacunita said, more input would be helpful.
