Hello - I have a client who has a problem with his Search utility in Win XP(home I believe). When he goes to the Start menu and chooses Search, he can preform a search but it always produces duplicates of every file. They are the same file in the same directory(notrecnt history entries). Very strange. Any ideas how this coud have occured or how to resolve it?

Thanks a bunch!

Try this link with a view to fixing your search engine.
Click on WIN XP FIXES on the left of the page and look for "Win XP Search Problems".

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
