We have recently upgraded PC's (both old and new used Win98). The usual procedure for opening a file or document from a given program like Word or Photoshop is to click on File / Open and then select the desired file from the 'Open' box. Since the upgrade, all the files listed in the 'Open' box are arranged by date. Previous to the upgrade files were always listed by name. This situation is not just in one program, but all programs - Microsoft, Adobe, AutoCad, etc. Can anyone help me change this so that files are listed by name? I can get Windows Explorer to list folders and files by name and I have tried going into 'Folder Options' in Windows Explorer to alter the view. Nothing seems to work. Thank you!

try clicking the Name column, then go into Tools..Folder Option (Second Tab) then say "Make all like current"

In Windows Explorer I tried your suggestion and clicked on 'Name' so that folders and files are listed by name and not date, and then went into Tools..Folder Option..View tab and the "Make all like current". When I opened a program, I was back to files listed by date.

I also tried, in the program's 'Open' window, to click on the 'Details' view option, and then click on 'Name'. This action lists the files and folders by name and not by date, which is what I want. With this 'Open' window still open, I went back into Windows Explorer and did the Tools..Folder Option..View tab and the "Make all like current". However, the program 'Open' window always defaults back to listing files by date.
Thank anyway for the quick response, but I'm still baffled?

Just got over this problem myself. Try this.
After opening explorer and selecting C: in the right window click Name (to put the in decending alphabetical order) then hold down ctrl and close explorer by clicking the x at the top right of the window. Now reboot to set changes. If it hasn't set the folders/files back to alphabetical order, then go into My Computer and set the View to Details and click Name (again to put the folders in decending alphabetical order) hold down ctrl and close the window in the same way, and restart your computer!! This should do it, it worked for me :)

sorry I forgot to mention that you will have to set Views to details to get the Name order up
