Hi there,

First let me explain our setup quickly for some background:
We have an Oracle database on Unix connecting to a DB2 database on an AS400 via the Oracle Transparent Gateway. The Oracle database on Unix is 8.1.7 and the OS is Sun Solaris 8. The AS400 OS version is 5.2.

We have a number of files on the AS400 with the extension .JRNRCV. Some of these files take up a lot of space, up to 500MB. The status of these files are also not the same, some are "SAVED", others are "ATTACHED". What are these files used for and which ones can I delete, if any at all?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
J.

Your physical files on the 400 are journaled. Before an update to a record is executed, a snapshot is stored in the journal receiver and after the update, another snapshot is stored in the journal receiver. Using this method, you can 'roll back' a database to a give point in time. Receivers hold a pre-deterimined number of records or are limited by file size (don't remember which). The saved receivers are full, the attached receivers are currently receiving data.

Depending on your needs, (how far back you think you may need to go) you can delete the saved receivers.

To work with receivers, type
go cmdjrn
on the command line.
