Files are being saved under "All users" so that users can get to work whether logged in locally (from satellite office they login locally then connect to VPN) or into domain (when working from headquarters). However, the files under All Users are coming up as "read only", not allowing a re-save. Error msg reads: Word cannot save or create file. Make sure the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write protected, or damaged. Note: This is a new Dell Inspiron 2650, running Windows XP Pro, SP1, 30 GB HD (NOT FULL). Space or damage or write protection should not be the issue.

Check the NTFS Security settings on that folder and make sure the Users group has Full Access permissions...

The All Users profile folder is not a good place for common files (as its used by the operating system). You would be much better creating a folder specifically for this task & assigning it appropriate permissions.

Also giving the users full control to a folder is a bit extreme and not good practise they only need read, read&execute and write permissions. Read and execute is not necessary but as i do not know what exactly your employees use its better to be on the safe side!! A better practise than giving full control!
