I have a movie file filename.avi that is 685MB (702 on disk) that worked fine last time I opened it. Now when I open the file, instead of getting the video 'filename.avi' I get a 30 second clip that was recorded with my digital camera. This is certainly not 700MB. I have no idea how long it's been 'switched'. winXP, NTFS, it's a data drive 120GB just housing data files (E: drive). There's definitely something wrong with the filesystem because the next file in explorer is another 700MB avi and it won't play at all. I ran the 'right-click error checking' and it didn't turn up any errors. I copied it to another disk, but it still shows the same incorrect size/filename (or plays the wrong file is more correct). Any ideas on what I can do? I don't trust this drive, so I've backed up all my pictures to another drive, but there's still a lot of stuff on there I'd rather have than not have.
(I just randomly tried other files and at least one other one is 'mis-linked' (plays wrong file) as well)

This talks about MFT errors and corruption.

You drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software to thoroughly check the condition of that hard drive.
