Hello,

Can anyone tell me what are the specific problems when running FMP Server off a undedicated W2K server? I would like to run it on a server with relatively low usage - but some. Basically just File/Print services for only a few people but FMP access for about 75 users. The manuals say this is a bad idea and I'm just wondering why??

Thanks!
Scott

The main reason they say it's a bad idea is because access will be slow to FMP.

Print services are the main thing that would slow FMP down. If you have ever shared a printer that's connected to your own machine you'll notice that when someone prints you tend to hiccup in whatever you're doing. Print spooling seems to take some resources and will slow down anyone accessing the server.

If you have an old machine laying around - maybe you could set that up to act as a print server.
