I have a client with 5 Macs connected to a simple file server. All machines run OS 9.2.2. All machines connect to the servier via TCP/IP. Filemaker Pro 4.1 is used. They have one important FMDB that is a phone sheet and not a large database, but something that gets edited or revised every 4 or 5 minutes. The owner needs to have instant, always-on, current data.

The server is the host of the Phone Log. All users connect to it as guests. I know that isn't the recommended method, but it's the way the client demands. People cycle in and out of the office all the time and the computers are on and off, so having a host that isn't the server machine isn't practical, it seems.

The problem is that the phone log is running painfully slow, sometimes taking 5 minutes to process a simple change or addition. The "loading" cursor icon hangs for minutes at a time.

They are not losing data, but the slowing is causing major business interruptions.

Any leads or ideas?
