In IE7 , the default fieldset border is silver/white and has curved edges.

why if you apply border-color to a fieldset the edges change to hard square corners?

is there a way of changing the fieldset default border colour and keep the nice rounded edges?

thanks 1DMF

Each browser, and OS will render form elements in its own way.
So really the only people who will actually see the button like you see it are those that use your OS and your browser.

Mac users will see the glassy blue buttons

Linux Users will see something entirely different dependent on the interface the use.

Windows users will also see different buttons depending on the version they use.

There is no real way of getting a consistent looking form element across all browsers.

Sorry I meant field set border. but the same applies. Even on Windows, Internet Explorer 6.0 shows it with rounded corners while Firefox shows it with square corners. I can only guess how a browser in MacOS shows it.

don't you find it odd that it renders them with rounded corners in IE as long as you don't change the border-color?

it seems as soon as you change the colour the border type changes to hard edges. i would expect them to stay rounded even if they show differently in other browsers, oh well no biggie at the end of the day i guess, just weird!

It is the same with buttons. IE seems to use default XP style form elements if no styling is applied to them. As soon as you add styling, it reverts to older 2000 style controls.

I think its because as long as no style is being applied, the browser lets the OS render the buttons. Once a style is applied the browser takes over that task. So the OS styling is no longer used.
