File won't convert stroke to shape

I have no clue why, but i am having the hardest time converting this stroke to shapes. I have tried everything I know to do, but it just won't work. If you would like to give it a shot, be my guest:

I've tried it on Illustrator at home and at work and neither will work. What is going on??

Ok, well, I didn't know about this, but:

Under Object > Path

There is an option called Outline Stroke. For some reason, if Expand doesn't work. Try that... Crazy stuff...

...your wouldn't expand because it is a compound path of many differing elements, this is different to your average shape and quite complex too...

...in any case outline stroke was the way to go...
