File type in Unix using textpad

Hi,

I wanted to edit a file and then ftp it to a unix server. I'm using textpad and I choose file format unix, however I'm not sure what encoding to use? ANSI, DOS, UniCode....?

How am I meant to decide which to choose?

The ansi(windows) charset is the nearer of the iso8859-1(unix).
