Hey Guys,
I just added an office in China onto our network and we are having a horrible time transferring files between our NY headquarters and Shanghai. We are currently running a full mesh cisco based VPN and would like to be able to transfer larger sized files 1 GB + over the WAN a bit faster. Any ideas?

Shanghai has a Windows 2000 File Server setup and I was thikning maybe FTP might be quicker then Windows shared?

What's your bandwidth? There are many many different factors. We have t-1's des vpn'd internationally and the ping response time is 140ms on avg (during off hours). Our t-1 3des vpn's in the states have avg 300ms (during business hours). Depending on the amount of transfers of that size and how quick you want to transfer them, consider using bandwidth limiters for users at the sites during the transfers. Ftp'ing will be quicker than using shares (linux or command line not windows gui FTP). Our transfer time doubles for ftp'ing inside the 3des vpn compared to outside. Our nightly transfers of ~3GB's w/3des vpn take about 5 hours on a good day.
