I have built a site for a print company and have created ftp access for their existing customers, they have their own usernames and password and access only to their folder.

Is there a way to allow new users to upload into a shared area but not see any other files that are there?

If users can't see it, why does it need to be shared? Just create folder, logins and passwords on the fly for each new user. All the standard server-side technologies can do this - you will need to ask in the appropriate server-side forum for details.

Don't know what platform you're using you can create an upload script that uploads the file to a remote directory.

You never need to actually show the contents of the "shared" directory to anyone. Just handle the upload and tell them it worked OK (or didn't as the case may be).

Remember to always check the file carefully before moving into a directory with execute permissions - better still don't let the uploaded files have execute permissions.

Then educate your client as to the dangers of strange files and that they should ALWAYS run a virus scan on the file before doing anything with it.

You will probably also want some kind of CAPTCHA on the upload form to stop people throwing a million files at it automatically just to see what happens
