File Transfer Problems

Here is the scenario:

Two win98 machines connected through linksys cable router

Cable connection to internet

Machine B has no problems transferring files via the network or internet or file sharing programs

Machine A will start to download a file from the internet but dies after a small amount (usually 23 to 58k). It works fine using wsftp-pro but cannot download from the internet or file sharing programs and locks up Windows Explorer when I access Machine B over the network.

If I keep canceling a download from a site and restarting it, it will sometimes download the whole file without stalling (usually after about 10 to 15 tries).

I have been trying to figure this problem out for months to no avail...any insight or help would be appreciated.

First, set the MTU of machine A to 1500. I use this utility:

Second, see if there are newer drivers for the NIC in Machine A. Apply them.

Third, try the access to Machine B, after the above steps are taken, with any firewall disabled.
