File Transfer Over on the Internet

I wonder if anyone can provide some basic info on this subject.

A requirement has been identified for the transfer of Acrobat files (PDFs) to a website The BackOffice system for this website in not known [at the time this thread was stsarted] but I suspect it may be SQl Server 7.0.

In order for data to be deposited to this BackOffice system, what areas should I be cosidering from an application development viewpoint and should security be a major concern during the file transfer process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
