Does NT Server4 support FAT32

Unicorn11
webmaster@tripmedia.com

Hi there it all likeminded fellows!!!!!!

Not directly. There are 3rd party add-ons that can allow NT to support FAT32. On a server, you should stick with NTFS for security if nothing else. FAT32 is a "temporary" file system that was designed to help people with Win9x last a little longer when large hard disks started coming out.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...

Fat32 temporary to what? NTFS via Win2K? I thought Win2K Professional was still aimed for business use, what do you suggest for 98 platforms or home users?
John Durbin

ICQ VFP ActiveList #73897253

FAT32 is simply a hack of FAT16. It has no file level security and is not as robust as NTFS. As I understand MS's plan, Windows ME (The upcoming upgrade to Win98) is the end of the 9x family. All future versions will be based on the NT code base and wiull use NTFS. After ME there is supposed to be a "consumer friendly" version of NT/2000.

The actual OS plans will probably change now that MS has announced the .NET initiative, but that won't change the fact FAT32 has never been anything but an enhanced legacy technology. FAT32 is the obvious choice if you're using Win95 or Win98 but even WinME may incorporate NTFS.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...
