First an appology if this is not the correct forum. I am not sure exactly where is the best place for my question.
The goup I work with has a common shared folder which is a huge mess. There is years of engineering data in it, but not a lot of rhyme or reason, and finding information from this data is a nightmare.
The folder is over 1.5 TBytes. There are about 165 top level folders, and many of these folders of course have sub-folders.
Is there an application available which will index this folder and make it searchable? I have Google Desktop on my PC, and have indexed a few of the folders which I use. However, deploying Google Desktop to 15 machines and having them all index 1.5 Tera Bytes seems kind of wasteful and inefficient. There has to be a better way. I am thinking of perhaps some sort of search engine we could load into that folder, and then everybody could access the index.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Scott
