I shutdown my server (properly) when I left for the weekend. When I came home, it would not boot up - it gets through LILO but when it gets to "Check root file system" it returns the following error messages

/dev/hda8 contains a file system with errors, check forced
/dev/hda8:\Inode 26446 has illegal block(s).

/dev/hda8: UNMEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY
*** An error occurred during the file system check
*** Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot when you leave the shell
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D for normal startup):

Well, to be honest I don't have a clue what my next move should be or if there even is a next move! I'm still pretty new at this so I sure could use some (extremely detailed)help!

After you enter root password, type 'e2fsck -p /dev/hda8' without the quotes. The -p switch tells it to automatically fix the problems without buggin' ya. I hope this solves your problem. Good luck.

Bless you! While it didn't work with the -p switch, I tried it without on prompt and then defaulted all the responses.

Now my linuxconf is hanging up - when I type 'linuxconf' at the hash, it just sits there. I'm going to go off in search of an answer but if you have any suggestions, please feel free!

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your help.
