File System Error 1148

Hi,

I have downloade lot of troubleshooting documents from web and stored it in my PC with the long file names. Now if i try to move to some other PC on the network via Robocopy or simple GUI copy, then it gives me error like File system error 1148.

I was told that this happens because of filename having more than 256 characters. But somehow i want to copy these documents.

As a workaround i have mapped the 6 level deep folder on the network PC where i want to copy the data and then tried the copy, though i dont get the above mentioned error but still it gives long file name error and stops copying.

Is there anyway out.

run dir /x at the command prompt to discover the short 8.3 filename then use that to copy the file.
