I absolutely CANNOT explain this....

I have a flash file into which I had to import about 45 bitmaps and same # of smaller thumbnails. I thought the file size was going to be huge, but i compressed the jpgs down to 75% from within flash and the swf file came up at 300+k which isn't too bad considering the number of jpgs.

That was 2 days ago. Today, after creating a few more tweened animations (with symbols that were already there), adding some thumbnail button states and action script to navigate to labelled frames, on export, the file - <are you ready for this??? > is a whooping 900+ k !!!! I tell flash to compress the file on export and it only comes down to 800+.

Barring a file size troll living in my program and doing things just to make me completely mad - does anyone have a clue as to what COULD have happened??

I also run a website, an art portfolio website which purely relies on many images, and I try keeping files sizes down a lot, but even then, its hard to avoid large flash sites. What I try to do then is using many preloaders and dynamically loading images.

I'm no expert on this matter, but there are many things that can affect file sizes. Depending on the extent of your tweened animations, that could take a heavy hit.

What I'm concerned (and ridiculously confused) about is that the swf file could go from 300 to 900 k without my adding any new images, and with only some minor symbol duplication (we're talking minimal duplication of vector symbols)...
