Guys

I have a reletively small project file (180) tasks that is at 9mb already?? Any ideas I'm lost at why it is so big????

Thanks in advance

Dave

This is often (not always, but definitely often) a sign that the file is getting corrupted.

Open the file and do a save as ... to a different file name.

(Which version of Project are you using?)

I am using 2003, tried that and it reduced to 5.9mb - any other ideas??

Look at your Notes fields. If you've embedded some files then that could have a significant impact. (The issue isn't just having Notes; it's how the Notes have been created.)

Other than that ... somebody else will have to offer a suggestion.

I copied and pasted the plan onto a new sheet, it then reduced to 180k ???

I guess it had just become corrupt??

Thanks for the help

Dave

Wow! That's dramatic. Glad you were able to solve the problem.

Out of interest sake, did you have any actual work recorded or was it just a schedule, resources and resource assignments? Had you done a baseline before? Anything else of interest that you might like to mention?

Well I'm new to MS project so perhaps don't fully understand your questions... but here goes
I have some % showing progresses recorded and I did save a baseline but then deleted it thinking it could be the cause of the problem. I have resources listed and some are assigned to tasks on the project. I did have a small 30k image on the left section of the header but again removed this thinking it may be a part of the problem. I'm trying to get into project quite deeply and have been working through the MS Project 2003 step by step book and the p&s book by Harris. No shortcuts I guess just trial and error?

For your information, if you embed a graphic image in the header or footer area this will dramatically increase your file size. Another trick to accomplish this is to embed a word or excell table in the header or footer.
