I have a couple of folders with music & video in that I wish to share across my network.

My network is not connected to a domain and is basically connected to a router/modem to share Internet and Files.

I disabled Simple File Sharing and shared the folder with a simple name "VIDS".

When I go to Network Neighbourhood I can't see anything and get a message saying I don't have permissions to view.

Changing to a different user allows me to view the IP 127.0.0.1 (loopBack??) but in my normal user name It displays empty.

I'm not sure if this is possible but I can't map a netowrk drive to them via this machine either.

Currently I only have one machine to get this working on.

How can I get Win XP Pro to allow me to access my shares via Network Neighbourhood?

If you are not connected to a domain, you are not going to see the network shares in the Network Neighbourhood. You have to type in the path to the share from your RUN command line. From the computer you want to remotely access the share from, type \\computername\sharename on the RUN line and then press enter. If it is actualy shared, and you are on a valid subnet, you should see the share folder. Thanks, James

. Workgroup name identical on both machines
. No blank or empty passwords
. Computer Name different from Workgroup Name and different from any User name
. Synchronize on all machines the usernames and passwords. E.g. Computer A has as users all the username and passwords of Computer B
. Under TCP/IP Properties, Advanced, WINS tab, 'enable Netbios over TCP/IP'
. Something: drive, folder, printer but something shared from each client workstation.
. Be certain there are no firewall issues, including "hidden firewalls" as default components of a Antivirus software program
. If the "Node Type" on either workstation shows as "Peer-to-Peer" under an Ipconfig /all listing :
Open notepad and copy/paste the below. Save as node_fix.reg :

**** start copy/paste below this line
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters\NodeType]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters\DhcpNodeType]

****** end copy/paste above this line

Double click the node_fix.reg file and answer the prompt to merge with your registry. Restart the computer and test again.
