File segmentation & Multiple connection

I want to make similar program like Download accelrator .
What they are doing is they make multiple connection to downloading site and using file segmentation for fast downloading.I don't know anything about file segmentation.
Where should I look for similar? How they make multiple connection? Are they using datagram.
Where should I start looking for..

You could get a packet sniffer and look at the packets. It might give you some ideas. ===============
