I have an External USB 2.0 Hard Drive. I created several folders on this drive. I created those folders on my old Windows XP laptop and set the permissions to that of the local users on that machine. Now when I try and access those folders on my new laptop it says access denied. Is there anyway to break the security on those folders so that I can get into them? I don't have the old laptop anymore so that is not an option. If you have a solution please help! Thanks!

Have you tried chaning the file ownership first, then resetting the permissions?

I am unable to reset the ownership. I don't have permission to do that. That is the problem.

If you are using the Administrator account you should be able to change ownership. (apply that), and then change the permissions.

The Admin account should always be able to take ownership.
