I have a couple of machines that are win 2000 SP2 that have Office 97 on them and I am getting the following error message: A document with the name "(Doc Name)" is already open. If I click ok, the document opens and seems to be ok except for the fact that hyperlinks in Excel don't work. This message happens to both Word and Excel files. I thought it might be something to do with the network, but even files on the local machine do the same thing. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi

You probably need to force Excel to re-register itself. Run the following from the command line in the directory where excel.exe is:

excel.exe /regserver

Excel will load and then quit - it's fixed the "File is already open" error for me in the past.

If the previous post suggestion does not resolve your issue are the files being opened just by double clicking on them? Do you get the same error if you open Word or Excel first and then the file? It kind of sounds like a file association problem and I wondering if the command being used is correct especially if DDE is included in the file assoication.
