Hello folks,

We are in the process of setting up a hotsite for an application running on AIX. I am trying to find a utility than would automatically update the hotsite if there are changes to the main server. This utility is only use for servers changes...

I am kind of new to the UNIX world so PARDON if this question has been asked before.

Thanks,

hi,

automatically.. no idea, but you can use "rsync" via "cron/crontab" to push the files that were modified to the target machine, maybe every minute or some bigger interval. if you don't have "rsync", get it via any search machine, easy to find.

I assume you want to use the hotsite as backup incase of the main server crashing , right / wrong ?
have you thought of using HACMP ? probably costly but if your company wants the other server to be highly available it may be worth considering.

Other possibilities are using rcp , rdist , and would your application be stopped on the main server before you copy the files? If not how does the application recover from any possible corruption in files if they are copied over , will the application recover ?
