Due to my stupidity when I set up replication between two servers, I have lost all the files on server1. No files were replicated to server2. All I have left is a set of 5 large files in the frs-staging folder on server1.

Is there any way to get at the files inside the staging files? Are there any tools that will unpack these files?

Thanks in advance

Ouchie.... don't worry, it happens to the best of us....

A couple of simple questions to start:

* What were you using to do the replication? The type of tool will determine whether you can recover the data. If they are ZIP files (or RAR, tarball, gzip, etc) then recovery should be pretty simple; if not, you have a problem.
* Has anyone used the staging server since replication started? You can try an undelete tool (do a Google search - there are thousands) and hopefully recreate the files that way.

Hope that points you in the right direction.

I used the Server 2003 File Replication Service. Yes it would be easy if I had used a standard archiving tool, but I didn't. I'm trying to find a tool that will allow me to extract the files from the staging folder that the file replication service creates. I can't find an explanation of how the files in that folder are created.
