Over the weekend I upgraded all of the PC's in my company to Office 2010. With Office 2003 the Word templates are kept on a server share, the normal.dot was picked up and performance was okay.

I set up the same way for my word 2010 install. Normal.dotm is kept on a server share, the system runs fine and the end users can customise there normal template with the auto texts they use etc and if something happens I can restore them from a back up or previous version.

But performance is becoming an issue, with the normal template on the local PC is anything between 3 to 8 seconds quicker than a PC with the template on the server.
This has had an impact on some of our document automation as they effectively timeout before they load!

So thats the history...

No I have windows server 2008 R2, I have windows 7 desktops and obviously Office 2010.

Can I, on log in, copy / replicate / or another means the normal template to a local directory. then on logging off copy the file back up again?

I'm guessing I could script it but I dont know if there was a way like roaming profiles (but want to avoid all the settings being copied around!) to automate it a bit more and keep with in the microsoft 'way'!

Your thoughts please!

Had a bit more of a look around the system and suddenly thought of GPO's! Why it did not come to me earlier I dont know.

I need help with a script please So I'm going to post the question in the WBScript Forum.

If anyone else has an idea though I'm happy to listen!
