I have been trying to recover data from three hard drives.
One has backup data on it consisting of a full ghost disk image file, and a data backup file written by BackupMyPc. The BackupMyPc apparently damaged the Ghost file since one segment of it (the last) is missing, and at least one other segment cannot be opened as per Ghost explorer.
The other two drives have copies of the data, but have been reformatted during a windows reinstall. One of these two is damaged (head crash is likely) while the other is not.
Using the info on thread779-941634, I have tried ontrack and getyourdataback. The getyourdataback product has been the most successful. It usually identifies the file name and directory in which it is/was located. It has recovered many files although many of these were not usable by their application. However, it has hung trying the read the damaged disk.
Ontrack has been essentially useless. It identifies only the type of file, and stops, on a 300 gig drive, at about 133 gigs. It knows it's only about half done, and continues counting time, but makes no further progress reading a good drive.
Does anyone have a suggestion for:
1. Reading a damaged Ghost file (Ghost explorer cannot do it)?
2. Recovering data from a reformatted, physically damaged, hard drive?
Thanks!
