I want to send a link on our internal mail with a file:// link to a file on our network server.

When the user tries to open this file, xp starts IE. But i want to open the file in excel. How i can i do this?

file://\\servername\shareneme\filemane.xls does seem to open the excel file in IE. The next best thing is to create a shortcut to the file locally (on desktop or whatever), then attach this shortcut to an email.
