File/Print Cluster Rebuild Node 2

I recently had an issue where I think one of the Microsoft Updates corrupted some flexLM licensing software that was running on one of my cluster nodes. After troubleshooting the issue for hours, and coming across additional isues with the CN2 node, it appears I need to rebuild the node.

I have a file/print cluster called filesrv which is hosted by two nodes, CN1, and CN2.

What I am looking to do is, completely reinstall CN2 from scratch, and not from a backup.

Since I am not the original support guy who configured the cluster as it stands today, what steps and procedures should I follow to recreate CN2.

CN2 is still functional, so I still have complete access to it, so what steps should I do to prepare to to be formatted and reinstalled.

Evict CN2 from the cluster, remove CN2 from the domain, etc.

As I mentioned above, I was not the original person who configured the cluster so if anyone can provide the steps to reinstall the cluster service(s) on the CN2 node would be greatly appreciated.

They are running Windows 2003 Server Enterprise.

Remove the server from the Storage group on the SAN so that the server can't see the storage any more.

Evict the server from the cluster.

Format the server

Add the server to the domain.

Add the server back to the storage group on the SAN so that it can see the storage.

Add the server back to the cluster.

Beer.

Denny,

Thanks for the response.

You mention removing the server from the storage group. The cluster node is attached to a HP MSA1000 via fiber card. I do not see any HP software on the CN2 node that manages the MSA1000 and where I can remove it from the storage group. Maybe I am not looking in the right area.

Also, would it be a good idea to remove the server from the domain prior to formatting it. I will need to rejoin it using the same name, so I want to be sure I am not going to have any name conflicts when rejoining back to the domain.

Thank You

To remove it from the Storage Group (this is EMC terminology, HPs may be different). You'll need to do this from the Storage Array it self.

There's no need to remove the machine from the domain first. When you add the machine back to the domain under the same name it will overwrite the old machine account.
