File Permissions

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has come across this problem before. I have a folder for users on our fileserver. For some reason when i give security permissions to a user for thier home directory, the folders underneath do not inherit, when i hit advanced under security tab for the folder i get a message saying there is no owner would u like to take ownership.
Can anyone help .
